Internal Migration In Australia

Summary
The aim of this project is to provide an overview of internal migration trends and movement patterns based on the 1996 census. General mobility over space and time for different segments of the population is examined. Mobility differentials are also reviewed. Mobility amongst individuals varies according to their age, sex and marital status. Mobility among the overseas-born is analysed and compared with the mobility of Australian born residents. Interstate migration and counter-urbanisation are also studied. Australia’s population movements, illustrated in this project, generate and reflect growth and decline in different areas of Australian geography and life..
