| The Atlas of Crime in Australia aims to raise awareness of the variation in incidence and prevalence of crime within Australia. The preparation of this Atlas involved data collection from a variety of different sources and formats. These data were processed and modeled before being integrated with spatial boundaries within a Geographical Information System to produce maps and graphs. Computerized mapping is emerging as a significant tool for both exploratory research and policy decisions in crime and justice. Maps display information that may help in understanding the relationships between geographic areas, crime and a number of risk factors.. | |
