Mapping Crime Levels in Australia

Summary
The Atlas of Crime in Australia aims to raise awareness of the variation in incidence and prevalence of crime within Australia. The preparation of this Atlas involved data collection from a variety of different sources and formats. These data were processed and modeled before being integrated with spatial boundaries within a Geographical Information System to produce maps and graphs. Computerized mapping is emerging as a significant tool for both exploratory research and policy decisions in crime and justice. Maps display information that may help in understanding the relationships between geographic areas, crime and a number of risk factors..
