The Graduate Diploma consists of a one year program of course work in Spatial Information Science. Students undertaking the Graduate Diploma program will have already obtained a degree in another field and so this course will provide them with additional skills, that will allow them it incorporate modern, leading edge computer technology to the application of real world problems. This will allow them to enhance the value of their existing qualifications.
The emphasis in the Graduate Diploma course is upon the applied nature of spatial information, rather than concentrate upon the solely upon the theoretical aspects. As consequence students are taught techniques and skills that relate to the current day to day usage of GIS in the workplace, as well as being introduced to advanced techniques that will provide them with specialist skills.
The structure and content of the Graduate Diploma is such that it is suitable for people from a wide range of professional field. This ranges from those who wish to be GIS users as well as those who wish to implement, manage GIS and Remote Sensing Projects. The Graduate Diploma also includes examples and practical studies from a number of different application areas including environmental and natural resource management, urban planning, and socio-economic applications
The graduate Diploma consists of 7 modules. All these units, with the exception of the research project, are conducted in short course format, consisting of a one week intensive lectures and practicals for each unit. Following these, there are assignments consisting of project reports and essays which students complete and submit for assessment.
